P&Z Permit Tech
Department: Planning & Zoning Reports to: Planning & Zoning Administrator Paygrade 5 $15.00-$21.00 DOE

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Participates as support staff to the administrator, commission, inspector and compliance officers in the administration and implementation of Gooding County’s land use and building regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet the public by phone or in-office with professionalism and consideration
- Assist Customers with Building Department Permit Applications
- Process Building Department Permit Applications
- Maintain Building Permit Files
- Process Public Record Requests for Building Department tracking & filing
- Process New or Corrected Address Information Notifications and Files
- Process and Maintain Expired Permit Letters and Files
- Process Building Permit Extensions
- Bill outside Agencies for Inspections and Plan Reviews
- Assist Building Official with miscellaneous clerical duties as needed
- Copy and/or scan building permit applications and plans
- Back-up to the P&Z Administrative Assistant

CLASSIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for an individual to satisfactorily perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be successful in the position.
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of effective writing techniques and administrative procedures
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and data entry systems
- Knowledge of County building permit and fee schedules
- Principles and practices of land use planning
Skill and Ability to:
- Read maps, identify parcel information, zoning districts and flood zones.
- Read and understand building plans and building permit applications to ensure completeness
- Problem Solve
- Speak clearly and communicate accurate information to others.
- Proficiently operate computers, software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar office software to create documents and other materials, maintain information, and generate reports.
- Listen carefully to, understand, and effectively communicate through oral, written, and interpersonal communication channels.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Work independently and exercise initiative, with general guidance and supervision.
- Use good judgment to make sound and reasonable decisions and problem-solving skills to respond to customer service needs in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times;
- Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid Idaho State Driver’s License, with a safe driving record;
- Must successfully pass background investigation relevant to the position and remain in good standing for the duration of employment with the County.
- Accurate keyboard skills and proven ability to enter data at the required speed
- Daily attendance required

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person, by telephone. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in an office setting and occasionally performs off-site visits.
